CVU Development Academy

Academy

CVU's Developmental Academy program has been revamped again and refreshed for Spring 2024! Technical staff have structured a new approach to the way our players will learn, compete, and develop. Our philosophy is developed around the technical, cognitive, and social development of our players. The academy will now be offered at two sites, the CVU Complex and in Forest (New London Academy)

The Academy (pre-travel) serves as the transition from wanting to play soccer, to competing within our extensive travel program. This year, CVU Academy will be open to U9 and U10 aged players born in the year 2014 or 2015.

Our coaches will seek to educate players in developmentally appropriate curriculum over the 10 weeks of play. Players will gain a more in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals of play and create their own pathway for success. Training will occur on Monday and Wednesday nights, with most games on Saturdays. CVU aims to teach the love for the game in a safe, competitive, and educational environment.

Academy Details

  • Registration Costs

Base cost is $245 for U9 (2015) and U10 players (2014). Please note that there is a no-refund policy in effect upon the close of registration and the start of the season.

  • Season

Offered in both the Fall and Spring, this seasons Spring Academy runs for 10 weeks. Male and female players may participate together in a co-ed setting, but a focus to provide girls-only instruction will also occur. For the current season, players born in 2014 and 2015 are eligible for the Academy program.

  • End of Season Tournament

Because the Academy program is pre-travel, we hope to be able to help everyone make that transition to travel soccer. CVU will be signing all Academy players up for an end-of-season tournament. ALL registered players will be attending a tournament in May to finish the season. The cost is covered by the program fees. Parents are just responsible for a hotel booking that weekend. Players can opt out of participating in the tournament if desired.

Academy for Spring 2024 will begin on March 11th for all U9/10 players.

  • Coaches

The Academy is overseen by Executive Director Simon French. The coaches are all nationally licensed through U.S. Soccer - the governing body of soccer in the United States - and follow CVU's Player Development Model. Each Academy site will have a site director as well as staff coaches to ensure an ideal player to coach ratio.

  • Practices and Games

Training sessions are held at your home site (CVU or FYAA). The Academy program practices twice a week.

Players are expected to wear shin guards and cleats for each practice. They are also encouraged to bring their own soccer ball - size 4 balls.

There will be a mix of in-house games as well as a few out-of-house games against other clubs for Academy players. The schedule is sent in its entirety before the season starts.

Spring 2024 practices for Academy will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm - 7:15pm on Fields 1A and 1B.

Games at the CVU Complex will be on Fields 1A, 1B & 1C on Saturday mornings from 9:00am - 11:00am.
